This summer, the pedestrian street season in Old Rauma starts on Friday 30 June, when Kuninkaankatu and Kauppakatu will be closed to vehicle traffic until 13 August. The traffic arrangements will be lifted on Monday 14 August.

Kauppakatu will be closed to traffic between Savilankatu-Vähäkirkkokatu and Kuninkaankatu between Isokirkkokatu-Savilankatu.

Market Square can be accessed from Kuninkaankatu for the entire pedestrian zone. The parking lot of the market is also available.

– Vähäkirkkokatu will be converted into a one-way street from Kuninkaankatu towards Kauppakatu to allow car traffic to the market. Temporary traffic arrangements will be indicated by traffic signs, and Wihertoimi will provide flower containers at the starting points of the area to enhance the significance of the driving ban,” says Riikka Pajuoja, City of Rauma’s Planning Manager.

Driving on properties is permitted for businesses and residents in the promenade area with a driving permit. Driving for maintenance is also allowed.

Drivers and cyclists must match the speed of pedestrians on the promenade and give pedestrians unobstructed access.

– On average, 2,700 visitors spend time in Old Rauma every day during the pedestrian street season, which is more than 1,000 more than on a normal day. During Rauma Lace week, the number of visitors is even higher. During the summer, out-of-towners account for about a third of visitors,” says Pajuoja.

As last year, the walkway will last for more than six weeks. However, the start of the season will be moved from mid-June to the end of the season and will continue into August.

– The longer period has been proven to work. Year after year, the promenade has received positive feedback, especially from tourists,” says Riikka Lehtinen, Chair of the Rakastunut Raumaan Community.
