Working days and holidays of schools

The municipality decides on the working and holiday days in pre-school and basic education within the limits set by the Basic Education Act.

There are 190 working days in the academic year of the basic education, of which, according to the Basic Education Act, Independence Day, Epiphany and May Day, which occur on a working day other than Saturday, are deducted. School work for the school year is always completed on the last working day of the week 22, which is Saturday.

The school year of 2023–2024

• The fall semester begins on Wednesday, 11 August 2023.
• The fall holiday is from 23 to 27 October 2023 (week 43).
• The fall semester ends on Wednesday, 22 December 2023.
• The spring semester begins on Monday, 8 January 2024.
• The sport holiday is from 19 to 23 February 2024 (week 8).
• The school year ends on Saturday, 1 June 2024.
