A charming wool sock pattern was created from the city illustration of Rauma – available to everyone

The summer city illustration of the city of Rauma inspired the local resident, Pirkko Grönqvist, to design the Rauma wool socks. A pattern for the lovely sock design was created and is available for download online at rauma.fi/knittingpatterns. The instructions are available in Finnish and English.

– The delicious colours of the city illustration inspired the idea for the pattern. The design was easy to create with a pencil and a piece of paper. First I sketched the Old Town Hall, and then moved on to the colour combinations of the houses, says Pirkko Grönqvist, the designer of the model.

Grönqvist encourages craft enthusiasts to be brave and create Rauma wool socks according to their own colour preferences and ideas.

The printed pattern for the wool socks can be picked up from local craft shops, Rauma libraries, the museum shop Kistupuad, the Savila tourist information office and the Service Point Pyyrman. Printed guides will be delivered to these establishments in the coming days.

– In the autumn of 2021, we published the Rauma sweater model for the free use of all Rauma residents and other knitters. The lace-patterned knitted sweater became a hit, and the Rauma wool socks are a perfect match. It is gratifying that the city illustration is also being used in handicrafts, Communications Manager Raija Lehtorinne says.
